The Sangha

by on Nov.30, 2011, under Buddhism

Last of 3 short articles by Contender Ministries on a short synopsis of Buddhism.  The Buddha was part 1 & The Dharma was part 2.  After the Buddha’s first sermon he continued to preach only to his followers, a group of wandering beggars, rather than to the masses.  These followers became the first monastic order.  This order of Buddhist believers is known as the Sangha.  In order to learn the Dharma and become part of the Sangha, people were required to become one of these beggar-monks. THE DHARMA

by on Nov.29, 2011, under Buddhism

Dharma is an Indian term that is understood to mean simply the law of life.  Within Buddhism, the Dharma means more specifically the teachings of Buddha. Following Buddha’s death his followers convened to create a system of doctrines that they could all agree on.  These teachings were then handed down orally over future generations through Buddhist monks.  In 80 B.C., Buddhist scribes finally compiled the teachings of the Buddha on paper, which became the Pali Canon, also called the Tripitaka.  The teachings contained rules for conduct, methods for spiritual attainment, and the ethics taught by the Buddha. The Buddha

by on Nov.28, 2011, under Buddhism

In the sixth century B.C., Buddhism was founded by Siddhartha Gautama.  A biography of Siddhartha Gautama was not written during his lifetime and the earliest accounts of life were not recorded until some three hundred years after his death.  Because there has been much debate by historians on where to draw the line between history and legend, the history probably contains much myth.  However, this is the history is accepted by most Buddhists and forms a model for all Buddhists to live by. Jan interacts with Tom McMahon of Berean Call concerning his new book, Temporal Delusion: Is the Church Destined to be Raptured or to Reign Supreme? Both the social gospel and Kingdom Now Theology propose “fix the earth” solutions but it won’t work. They discuss Stearns’ troubling, works-oriented Hole in the Gospel social gospel issues, C. Peter Wagner’s New Apostolic Reformation, Rick Warren’s contribution to this mix, and much more. They also touch on evangelical mysticism, ancient-future heresies and other elements contributing to the delusion of today’s church.  (continue reading…)

LDS List of False Prophecies

by on Nov.24, 2011, under Mormon

The “weapons” we have used against the LDS have been primarily the Bible, and also its own published material. It is evident that these weapons haveindeed prospered against the Church. We are seeing literally thousands of Mormons leave the Church for Jesus, because of the impact of our Biblical witness. We have seen the convert rate per LDS missionary continue to drop. It is evident that our weapons are prospering and that the Church is adamantly refusing to obey its own prophecy and “confound” us. Instead, it is doing its best to pretend to ignore us. An altogether different thing! (continue reading…)

LDS Upon This False Prophet

by on Nov.24, 2011, under Mormon

One of the most amazing ironies of Mormonism hinges on its central tenet that it was founded by Joseph Smith, who claimed that he was called of God to re-establish Christ’s true Church on the earth.  The Mormons revere Joseph Smith as a true prophet of God and the holy man upon whom God himself laid this authority to administer God’s people and usher in this last dispensation of time. If his claims to having seen God and Christ and receiving his prophet-hood and authority from them were really true, two very important things would follow.   (continue reading…)

LDS The Mind Warp

by on Nov.22, 2011, under Mormon

Over the years of this ministry, I have reviewed so many of the LDS books, magazines, documents, articles and pieces of correspondence we have gathered over the years. The material is vastly divergent but through it all is one central theme that leaps from the pages. I guess I would call it the “How could anyone in their right mind believe that??” question.  This is not surprising when you understand that almost every prophecy Joseph Smith uttered failed to come to pass. Yet, over 12 million people place their eternal salvation on the line in their testimony that he was/is the one (continue reading…)

Biblical hermeneutics is the study of the principles of interpretation concerning the books of the Bible.  In These sessions Dr. Walter Martin contrasts false teaching faulty and sloppy hermeneutics in a variety of cults and false religions.  Dr. Martin covers Mormonism, Jehovah Witness’s, Christian Science, Hyper-Faith, and more to demonstrate the crucial need and danger associated with not being able to rightly divide the word of truth 2 Timothy 2:15.  False teachers and false religions are everywhere.  While their are many erroneous ways of interpreting the bible, their is clearly only one intended interpretation that is correct.  (continue reading…)

The purpose of this page is to present a comprehensive and coherent methodology for Biblical interpretation. Many skeptics have complained that the Bible can’t tell us anything of any real value because every person interprets it differently. While this is surely an overstatement – there is a great deal contained in the Bible that many Bible-believing Christians do in fact agree on – the reason why there are so many different interpretations is because interpreters don’t follow any sensible or consistent method. This naturally leads to inaccurate, inconsistent, illogical and naive interpretations.  We imploy the Grammatical-Historical Method.   (continue reading…)
