Dharma is an Indian term that is understood to mean simply the law of life.  Within Buddhism, the Dharma means more specifically the teachings of Buddha. Following Buddha’s death his followers convened to create a system of doctrines that they could all agree on.  These teachings were then handed down orally over future generations through Buddhist monks.  In 80 B.C., Buddhist scribes finally compiled the teachings of the Buddha on paper, which became the Pali Canon, also called the Tripitaka.  The teachings contained rules for conduct, methods for spiritual attainment, and the ethics taught by the Buddha. In the sixth century B.C., Buddhism was founded by Siddhartha Gautama.  A biography of Siddhartha Gautama was not written during his lifetime and the earliest accounts of life were not recorded until some three hundred years after his death.  Because there has been much debate by historians on where to draw the line between history and legend, the history probably contains much myth.  However, this is the history is accepted by most Buddhists and forms a model for all Buddhists to live by. Critical to this belief is the understanding that prophecy is something that you can grow in (learn) as opposed to an outright gift. While the point can be made that you can learn how to use the gift, it remains a gift nonetheless. And one which must be judged. At the Morningstar Church students reportedly sit at tables on the sides of the auditorium and will give you a prophecy (reading) if you ask. Sometimes they miss it, but that’s alright, they are learning. Contrast that with a statement from John Bevere, who in his seminal work on prophecy “Thus Saith the Lord” states that “There is no Junior Holy Spirit.” (continue reading…)

This is an interview with Lynne Dickie about the dangers of Reiki energy healing.  We keep hearing and was even asked by a neighbor who is a Reiki Master to teach this at our Church.  I kindly said, no and explained we only heal in the Name of Jesus and explained that Reiki is not a Christian practice of healing.  She explained it would work no matter what name we used…  She was offended, but the truth will offend many.  See in this interview with a nurse who dabbled with this occult method of trafficking in demons.  Every Christian should understand this Eastern mystical practice.   (continue reading…)
