IS A MORMON  A CHRISTIAN?  My mother was a Mormon.  I had the pleasure of leading her out of the Mormon Church.  We love Mormons and we really want you to know what the difference is between Christianity and Mormonism.  The Bible is full of warnings of deception and the rise of false prophets.  How can we know?  The Bible will be our guide. We hope it blesses you and leads you to what the major difficulties are with Christian doctrine and Mormon doctrine.  God bless you!

“For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, fashioning themselves into apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for even Satan fashioneth himself into an angel of light. It is no great thing therefore if his ministers also fashion themselves as ministers of righteousness, whose end shall be according to their works.”  2 Corinthians 11:13-14

And through the Apostle John, in 1 John 4:1

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but test the spirits whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

Is Mormonism Christian?

Mormon View of God & Salvation

Mormon salvation is defined as the resurrection of all persons from the dead, followed by celestial glory for those who have closely followed the Mormon faith.

Mormon males, who attain to the “priesthood”, will become exalted beings (gods – D&C 132:20), who will rule over their own worlds (planets) and will eternally procreate spirit children to populate those worlds (the doctrine of “eternal increase”).
God was also once a man but is now an exalted being of flesh and bones (Doctrine &Covenants130:22).
When Jesus gave his life on the cross, he saved Mormons from having to pay for their sins immediately–they now have time to pay for their sins.

The Book of Mormon says: “for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all, e can do.” (2 Nephi 2:23). The Mormon “gospel” is one of salvation by grace .

Mormon View of Jesus Christ

Christ (aka Jehovah) is the spiritually created firstborn son of Elohim (Father God-Talmage,D C, p.466).
All things were created through Him once He was created (McConkie, MD, p. 169).
Since Satan was also spiritually created, he is, therefore, considered Christ’s brother.
In the flesh, Jesus was created via a sexual union between Elohim and Mary.
Jesus showed us the way to exaltation (godhood) by his obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Mormon gospel (McConkie, MD p. 192).
By Jesus’ resurrection, all men have gained physical resurrection–they have been saved from eternal life without a body.

Mormon View of Scripture

The Mormon Church is believed to be the “Latter Days” restoration of the church of Christ.  Church officials are believed to receive continuing divine revelation. New “revelations” have often contradicted previous revelations, resulting in doctrinal changes.

The introduction to the Book of Mormon says it is “another Testament of Jesus Christ”, “comparable to the Bible”, and that it contains the “everlasting fullness of the Gospel”.

Book of Mormonis regarded as superior to the Bible, Articles of Faith#8) Thus, where the two textsconflict, it is the Biblethat is seen to be in error.

There is a basic mistrust of the Bible, even though Mormons tell outsiders that the Book of Mormon helps to “interpret” or “completes” the Bible. The Mormon Gospel

Articles of Faith#2 : “We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression”

Articles of Faith#3: “We believe that through the atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel”.

Articles of Faith#11: “We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may”.

We might ask Mormons. . .

If the Bible truly does contain the “fullness of the everlasting gospel”, as the introduction to the Book of Mormon states, then why is the Book of Mormon even necessary?

* If the Bible and the Book of Mormonboth truly contain the fullness of the gospel, then those gospels should agree, right?

* What does the Bible say about determining the validity of other texts, teachings, prophecies, etc.?

Please note: The fact is that The Bible and Book of Mormon cannot both be true, as the Book of Mormon has been proven to be historically false, while the Bible has ample historical, archaeological, and textual evidence to support its authenticity! Furthermore, the small amounts of “doctrine” in the Book of Mormon conflict with other LDS scriptures & revelations, and with the Bible.

Is a “Burning in the Bosom” proof enough (D&C 9:8)?

What the Bible says. . .

1 John 4:1– “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”

Acts 17:11–”Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every dayto see if what Paul said was true.”

Christian View of God & Salvation

Christian salvation is a 3-part salvation, consisting of: justification (accepting Christ as Lord & Savior), sanctification (walking day by day with Him in a close, personal relationship), and glorification (our heavenly hope once our earthly lives are completed).

Every person who trusts Christ as Lord and Savior becomes “born again” because God’s Spirit comes to indwell him/her (Jn. 3:3, 7).

When we are born again, we become children of God (Rom. 8:16-21; Gal. 3:26)

>Godis a Spirit and we must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth (John 4:24).

Salvation is possible by God’s grace alone. No amount of works we can do will earn us salvation: “For by grace ye are saved through faith; and that not of ourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. (Eph. 2:8-9; Isa. 64:6).

Christian View of Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ was no less than God in the flesh. He divested Himself of His glory to come to earth (Phil. 2:5-8) and become our Redeemer (Gal. 3:13) and High Priest (Heb. 4:14-16) so that we can enjoy a personal relationship with Him now and eternally.

He is the Creator of all things in heaven and on earth–including the angels (i.e. Lucifer before he rebelled) Col 1:15-17).

In the flesh, Jesus was begotten by the Holy Spirit in the womb of Mary (Mt. 1:18-23).

Jesus is the cornerstone of the church (Jn. 15:26), the only way to salvation (Jn. 14:6), and the means by which we become reconciled to God (Rom. 5:10; 2 Cor. 5:18; Col. 1:21)

We must know the true Jesus of the Bible and call on Him to be saved (Rom. 10:13).

Chrisian View of Scripture

The Bible canon is CLOSED
(Jude 1:3; Heb. 1:1, 2).
God’s word never changes because God does not change (Ps. 90:2; 102:26; Mal. 3:6)

Any interpretation of Scripture, doctrine, or subsequent “revelation” that is not in harmony with The Bible must be rejected.

We are warned against false prophets who promote false versions of Jesus and false versions of the Biblical Gospel (2 Cor. 11: 3, 4, 13-15; Matt. 7:15-27).

Mormonism cannot be the restoration of the church of Christ since Christ promised that the church would never be lost nor disbanded (Matt. 16:18).

The Bible came to us by inspiration of the Holy Spirit (1 Thess. 1:5; 2 Tim. 3:16, 17). Every word has been tried and we are forbidden to add or subtract from it  (Prov. 30:5, 6).

We must beware of other gospels that are not in agreement with the Bible—even if they come to us by the mouth of an angel (Gal. 1:6-8).

We are commanded to defend the Christian faith (1 Pet. 3:15; Jude 1:3).

Christian View of the Gospel

Sin entered the world through the first man, Adam (Rom. 5:12-21).

The penalty for sin is death (Rom. 6:23).

When Jesus gave his life on the cross, he completely atoned for our sins and paid the penalty for them in our stead (Rom. 3:23-26)

This payment was made once for all sinners, no more payment is due; no more payment can be made (Heb. 10:11-22).

By believing in this work of Jesus we are saved. We are judged not guilty (Isa. 1:18) and are given, free of charge and undeservedly, eternal life in heaven.

THE FALSE PROPHET AGENDA

Deuteronomy 13:1-4—”If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a miraculous sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder of which he has spoken takes place, and he says, “Let us follow other gods” (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,” you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The LORD your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. It is the LORD your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.”

Joseph Smith another false prophet

But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.  For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it! …And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. 2 Cor 11:1-15
