Why the cross? One of the greatest philosophers ever stated that “Perhaps the deity can forgive sins, but I don’t see how?”
What great insight to the enigma of a righteous and holy God to be reconciled to sinful man. God had a problem. His holiness cannot allow sin. Sin is the transgression against Gods law.
20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22 For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
Sin must be punished and the law must be applied. The bible says the soul that sins shall surely die, and all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Yet God loved us and decided in the counsel of the Trinity that nothing short of the death of God Himself in the person of Jesus Christ would do. He gave His very best. He gave His life, His blood, and as the bible describes in prophecy about Gods suffering servant in Isaiah 53: 1-10. Here before Christ’s ministry these amazing prophecies about Jesus.
53 Who has believed our report?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant,
And as a root out of dry ground.
He has no form or comeliness;
And when we see Him,
There is no beauty that we should desire Him.
3 He is despised and rejected by men,
A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
4 Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
Isaiah 53 — The Suffering Servant
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He opened not His mouth;
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
So He opened not His mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment,
And who will declare His generation?
For He was cut off from the land of the living;
For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
9 And they made His grave with the wicked-
But with the rich at His death,
Because He had done no violence,
Nor was any deceit in His mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him;
He has put Him to grief.
When You make His soul an offering for sin,
He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days,
Here again here in Colossian 1:19-23. We see it pleased the Father. Let that sink in. There is no other way to heaven or so called gods. That is why the devil hates the cross and the good news it brought to man. Even the grace that we would receive is in the Old Testament as prophecy. You see prophecy is all over the Bible testifying that God is in control of world events and yes even bringing judgment on the ungodly.
19 For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, 20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight- 23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.
No other religion or positive thinking and certainly no amount of good deeds will access you into the pearly gates. Here’s the rub. If you think that you are a good person. I urge you to take the test or watch this video below. First here is why. If we could do anything to earn heaven then God need not have sent His one and only Son. But as testified in Hebrews in ch.2 vs.9 that His Son tasted death for you and me. To reject this awesome gift of eternal life by the entrance which is found in the cross of Christ is to taste death for yourself and you will loose all that God has for you. Take the test and receive Christ today!
What about My Church?
If you belong to a church or are looking for one and there is no mention of Sin, the blood of Christ, the cross, and repentance. RUN! Find a church and friendship that follows hard after truth.
9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. Hebrews 2:9
I don’t know about you, but it staggers me that it pleased God to put Jesus on the cross and make Him an offering for sin as the Lamb of God. Again here below, it pleased the Father! Gods’ ways are higher than our ways! We cannot fathom the great love with which He first loved us and bought us in His own blood to redeem us from the last enemy which is death. This is why we love Him, worship Him, praise Him and give Him all the glory. Once you get your heart around this gift of eternal life which can only be found in the grace of God who as the Apostle John put it. John 3:16-21.
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
What are you Saved from? Hell!
Jesus died for our sins and tasted death for us. To refuse His free gift is to choose Hell. Not to choose is to choose Hell.
A Letter from Hell
The Full Gospel John 3:16-21
18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
That’s the plan of the cross and it caught the enemy off guard. Recall in the beginning that the seed of the woman was anticipated by the devil. He is always trying to thwart the plan of God. Futile! It unraveled for Satan and his fallen angels at the cross. Jesus Christ stripping them of their power and taking the keys of death and hell back into His dominion which was lost at the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. Check this verse out. 1 Corinthians 2:6-8.
6 However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, 8 which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
